LOGAN — Firefighters are responding to a wildfire burning in Logan Canyon near Temple Fork, prompting authorities to close the highway in both directions.
According to Logan City Police Dispatch, U.S. Highway 89 is closed from the mouth of the canyon in Logan to the Rich County line.
Utah Fire Info reports Blind Hollow Fire has scorched approximately 15 acres. It is burning in steep grass and brush.
Fire officials ordered the closure over concerns that flames could jump the road. Emergency crews remain on scene working to contain the blaze. Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes.
Law enforcement is in the process of notifying nearby campers to be ready to evacuate if needed.
Firefighters are being assisted by a helicopter that is dropping water on the flames. Multiple brush units will be staying on the fire overnight, working on containment and monitoring hotspots.
Dispatch operators report the canyon will remain closed until noon on Monday
The cause of the fire is still being determined.
