LOGAN — Firefighters are responding to a wildfire burning in Logan Canyon near Temple Fork, prompting authorities to close the highway in both directions.

According to Logan City Police Dispatch, U.S. Highway 89 is closed from the mouth of the canyon in Logan to the Rich County line.

Fire officials ordered the closure over concerns that flames could jump the road. Emergency crews remain on scene working to contain the blaze. Drivers are advised to seek alternate routes.

Law enforcement is in the process of notifying nearby campers to be ready to evacuate if needed.

Firefighters are being assisted by a helicopter that is dropping water on the flames.

Dispatch operators could not provide an estimation on when the canyon would be reopened.
