SALT LAKE CITY — The Utah Nonprofits Association has launched a new initiative aimed at transforming the way local charities tell their stories—and connect with donors. The inaugural Utah Nonprofit Film Festival, scheduled for Nov. 10 at The Leonardo museum in Salt Lake City, will spotlight 12 selected nonprofits through professionally produced short films.
Applications for participation are now open through June 2. Each selected nonprofit will receive $10,000 in in-kind production services to create a compelling, mission-driven film, culminating in $120,000 in total support.
“This is more than a film festival,” said Jill Bennett, CEO of the Utah Nonprofits Association in a release. “It’s a tribute to the nonprofits that show up every day to feed, shelter, heal, and uplift our neighbors. These stories remind us of the compassion and resilience at the heart of our communities.”
The festival comes at a time of shifting landscapes in public and private funding for nonprofits, with uncertainty around federal grants. The Utah Nonprofit Film Festival aims to bridge the gap between these organizations and the next generation of donors through storytelling.
Selected nonprofits will be paired with filmmakers and receive expert-led training in “hope-centered” storytelling and donor communication strategy. Their films will premiere at the November event, where donors and community members can meet the featured organizations.
“This initiative fills a real need in our sector,” said Kabi Catalano, UNA’s vice president of nonprofit engagement and strategic initiatives. “Nonprofits are doing incredible work, but often lack the time and tools to share their impact. Meanwhile, new donors are ready to give—but don’t always know where to look. This festival will bridge that gap in a powerful and exciting way.”
Filmmakers, sponsors, and nonprofit organizations are encouraged to get involved. Sponsorship opportunities remain open, and more details are available at www.utahnonprofits.org.
