LOGAN – “Presidential Elections and the Future of American Democracy” is the focus of the upcoming 26th annual Bennion Teachers’ Workshop at Utah State University.
USU’s Mountain West Center for Regional Studies is hosting the event.
The annual gathering this year, from June 2-6 on the Logan campus, will first examine the development of presidential election processes, including the party convention system, current mechanisms for securing party nominations and the Electoral College.
Directing the workshop are Damon Cann and Robert Ross of the USU Political Science faculty and they have enlisted the help of notable public servants including Terry Camp, vice president of public policy for the Utah Farm Bureau Federation and former Utah Congressman Rob Bishop.
Bishop’s keynote address begins at 6 p.m. June 4 in the Carolyn Tanner Irish Pavilion at the Mehdi Heravi Global Teaching & Learning Center. Bishop will share insights drawn from his service in Congress from 2003-2021.
Participants will examine various reforms to the American electoral system through interactive sessions.
The Bennion Teachers’ Workshop is taught by USU faculty and will focus on giving in-service and pre-in-service teachers tools they can use in the classroom.
