HYRUM – Utah legislative candidate Jim Atkinson will meet with local residents on Monday, April 6.

That meet and greet event will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Hyrum Civic Center.

The gathering in Hyrum will also feature remarks by podcaster and conservative influencer Chelcie Hope.

A resident of Avon, Atkinson is a Republican challenging popular incumbent Rep. Casey Snider (R-Paradise) for the Utah District 5 seat in the state House of Representatives.

Atkinson is a self-employed heating and air conditioning contractor.

He has participated in the GOP caucus system for many years and has been both a state and county delegate, with the avowed goal of supporting conservative principles and policies in Utah.

Atkinson is currently a precinct vice chair here in Cache County and a member of the state Republican Central Committee. He was also recently appointed to serve on the Avon Cemetery Board and on the Cache County RAPZ and Restaurant Tax Board.

If elected to the Legislature, Alkinson’s top priority would be to decrease Utahns’ tax burdens, which he says are the highest of any Republican-governed state in the nation.

According to the candidate’s website, Atkinson would also advocate for reducing government spending, eliminating “pet” government projects and supporting transparency in how tax dollars are spent.

Prior to the 2026 general session of the Legislature, Snider was selected to serve as the Republican majority leader in the Utah House.

The Hyrum Civic Center is located at 83 West Main Street in Hyrum.
