Ridgeline High School students will compete in the 23rd Annual Young Artist Cup

LOGAN – Thirty-three students from Ridgeline and Mountain Crest High Schools will showcase their talent during the 23rd Annual Young Artist Cup Competition on Wednesday and Thursday, March 30-31 at 7 p.m. at the Mountain Crest High School Auditorium.

Wellsville’s Emma Turpin’s design was chosen to represent the 2022 Young Artist Cup.

The competition, presented by the Young Artist Cup Committee in association with MCHS and RHS, will showcase the musical talents of the students in 10th-12th grades in six categories which include graphic art design, female and male vocals, string instruments, piano and brass/wind/Percussion.

My favorite part is seeing the courage and determination of these students and their incredible talent,” Young Artist Cup Committee member Ruthanne Ellis said. “The talent just blows me away every year.”

The Piano and Brass/Wind/Percussion portion of the cup will be held on Wednesday evening while the String and Vocal competition will be held on Thursday.

Each category is judged by two judges that have been selected throughout Cache Valley with varying years of experience in the corresponding category.

“It’s always fun to have those judges donate their time and expertise to the students,” Ellis said. “I’m excited for our judges this year.”

The top three performances from each category will receive a trophy and cash prices from funds raised by the committee.

“We spend about six months fundraising,” Ellis said. “The top three winners do receive a very substantial cash award in each category.”

The graphic art design competition was held in the Fall to determine the 2022 Young Artist Cup logo. Emma Turpin’s design was selected to represent the competition. The top three designs will be named during the competition.

This year’s competition will bring back a sense of normalcy to the students after two years of COVID-19 restrictions.

“This year is so nice that we can gather together and have it feel normal,” Ellis said. “The students can come with an unlimited number of guests to cheer them on and to have that sense of normalcy back in this competition.”

Ellis said everyone is invited to attend to this year’s competition. Admission is free and refreshments will be provided to anyone who attends.

“They will enjoy some beautiful music and be richly fed,” Ellis said.
