LOGAN – As of Wednesday, the Trump administration has revoked the visas of nearly 50 international students at seven different Utah educational institutions; 20 of them are University of Utah students and recent graduates.

Utah State University has confirmed the revocation of International students’ visas but did not disclose the number of students other than to say a “very low” number of USU students are affected.

According to the U of U reasons given for visas being revoked include a criminal record check or “failure to maintain nonimmigrant status.”

In the United States international students can obtain and F-1 visa or a J-1 visa and both have different restrictions and requirements. Another option is an M-1 visa for vocational students. Students on an F-1 or M-1 visa must be proficient in English or be in courses that lead them to English proficiency.
