LOGAN — A magnitude 3.0 earthquake struck Logan Canyon on Wednesday afternoon, sending a noticeable tremor through parts of Cache Valley and the Bear Lake area.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported the quake occurred at 3:25 p.m. with an epicenter located just off Temple Fork Road, less than a mile from U.S. Highway 89. The strike was approximately 14 miles northeast of Logan and 11 miles west of Garden City.

According to USGS data, the earthquake originated at a depth of about 4.2 miles. While few residents initially reported feeling the vibration on the agency’s “Did You Feel It?” website, the event follows a slightly stronger magnitude 3.3 earthquake that rattled Weber and Davis counties earlier this week.

Geologists noted that while magnitude 3.0 quakes are generally considered minor, they are often felt by people near the epicenter. No immediate damage or injuries were reported in the canyon or surrounding communities.
