LOGAN — Logan City Police Chief Jeff Simmons and Lt. Bret Randall recognized several local organizations and individuals Tuesday night for their “invaluable contributions” during the memorial services for two fallen officers in August 2025.
During the Logan City Council meeting Jan. 6, the department presented recognition plaques to those who provided logistical and charitable support for the funerals of Officer Eric Estrada and Sgt. Lee Sorensen. Police leadership described the community response as overwhelming, noting that the scale of the services required unprecedented coordination.
Among those honored was Watkins Printing, which donated approximately 8,000 funeral programs. Transportation and safety support were also central to the honors, with Connect Public Transit providing shuttle buses for attendees and AWP Safety donating large digital displays for traffic notifications.
Utah State University staff played a significant role in the proceedings. The department recognized USUPD Lt. Scott Murray for facility and parking liaison work, and Brandon Hansen, associate director of USU Event Services, whose team managed ushers, seating, and television broadcasts for the thousands in attendance.
Additional recognition was given to:
- Justin Allen, Logan City Cemetery sexton, for burial site preparations.
- Logan City Public Works, for assisting with traffic barricades and the display of flags throughout the city.
“The Cache Valley community is truly unmatched,” department officials said in a statement, reflecting on the citizens who lined the streets during the processions. Chief Simmons expressed gratitude for the local partnerships that ensured both officers were honored with dignity and respect.
