LOGAN — A 32-year-old Logan woman remains in the Cache County Jail on kidnapping charges for allegedly trying to take a young child from her mother, according to law enforcement. Ashley Michelle Hard was booked April 8 into the Cache County Jail.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, Logan City Police officers were dispatched to the Jumpzone on a reported family dispute. The complainant reported Hard was in a verbal altercation with a sister.

As the dispute continued, Hard reportedly picked up the alleged victim’s daughter and attempted to keep her away from the other woman. The two women continued arguing as the child began screaming.

Both women and the child were still in the parking lot when police arrived on the scene.

Officers reported several items thrown around the parking lot. Surveillance footage showed Hard physically capturing the child and keeping her away from her mother, the arrest affidavit detailed.

When police attempted to take Hard into custody, she became combative and tried to resist being placed in handcuffs. She claimed to have taken the child to protect her from the alleged victim.

According to court records, Hard appeared Monday in Logan’s 1st District Court. She has been charged with child kidnapping, a first-degree felony; and, misdemeanors for failing to stop at the command of law enforcement, interfering with a peace officer, and domestic violence in the presence of a child.

Hard remains in jail, being held without bail. She could face up to life in prison, if convicted.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
