LOGAN — Law enforcement is advising caution as they investigate a string of vehicle burglaries that occurred over the weekend. A majority of the crimes were reported Sunday, with a couple occurring Saturday.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Doyle Peck said multiple vehicles had their windows smashed, and valuables inside taken. Most of the stolen items were wallets, purses and backpacks.

The burglaries were reported near trails, where the vehicles were parked for an extended period of time.

Peck said several of the crimes occurred at the Guinavah Campground and Wind Cave Trailhead in Logan Canyon.

Logan City Police Assistant Chief Jeff Simmons said they were also investigating similar burglaries that had occurred at First Dam and Rendezvous Park.

Peck said it appeared the incidents were all crimes of opportunity, where the suspects quickly hit a group of vehicles, grabbing whatever they could, and fleeing the area.

With Cache Valley experiencing record high temperatures over the weekend, many headed to parks and trails to enjoy the spring weather.

Peck said detectives are following up on several leads and possible descriptions of the suspect’s vehicle. He asked for citizens, who might have seen any suspicious activity, to contact law enforcement.
