Fire at the mouth of Sardine Canyon.

LOGAN — Law enforcement and fire fighters were dispatched to a grass fire near the mouth of Sardine Canyon, US-89/91. The blaze was reported around 3:15 p.m. Saturday.

Logan City Police dispatch reported the fire is suspected to have started by a car that had pulled off onto the side of the road into the grass. Flames quickly spread due to the dry and windy conditions.

Utah Highway Patrol troopers reduced traffic at the mouth of the canyon to one lane in each direction, to allow fire fighters space to extinguish the blaze. They advised motorists to consider using Valley View Highway, SR-30 as an alternate route.

Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution. Dispatch operators conducted a reverse 911 call to residents, advising them of the evacuation.
Law enforcement is asking for citizens to avoid the area and allow fire fighters room to extinguish the fire.
