ARCO, Idaho — A 65-year-old Pocatello man died Saturday after crashing his motorcycle into the lava rocks near Craters of the Moon National Monument, authorities said.

The Idaho State Police reported that the crash occurred just before noon on U.S. Highway 93 in Butte County. The man was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle southbound when he lost control of the vehicle, veered off the roadway, and crashed into the rocky landscape.

Despite wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the driver succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

His identity has not yet been released. The cause of the crash remains under active investigation by the Idaho State Police.
