WELLSVILLE – Wellsville held their second annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at city square park recently.

People from the community arrived early to the ceremony to enjoy free hot cocoa and donuts while they waited for Santa to join them.

Santa arrived with two fire trucks escorting him to city square park, as he got off the fire truck a group of little children went up to Santa and said hi to him.

It was time for the grand reveal, after Santa joined everyone in the crowd it was time to light the Christmas tree.

Everyone, including Santa, counted down from 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, and the tree shined with lights around the tree.

Santa made his way in front of the tree to sit and ask each and every child what he or she wanted for Christmas.

Cade Huskinson is the event organizer of the Wellsville Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

He said that one day he had an idea to wrap the tree on city square park in lights and with that idea it was kicked into motion.

“We’ve had a lot of people from the community reach out and say ‘hey, we’ll donate some lights. We’ll donate some money to buy the lights.’”

Huskinson says this event is “really a community thing, everyone was involved.”

To make sure that this event could be a life long event that he and others could bring their grandchildren to, Huskinson talked to the city about making this possible and the city gave them permission and soon enough the city also helped them with the ceremony.

Huskinson says his favorite part of the ceremony is “when we count down and we hit the lights and everything works.”
