CACHE COUNTY – As the New Year approaches, the game of “Musical Chairs” continues on the Cache Valley political scene.

As Mayor-Elect Mark Anderson of Logan did in November, longtime Cache County Council member Barbara Tidwell has elected to give up her seat on that panel.

Citing her husband’s ill health, Tidwell will step down effective Dec. 31, setting off special election procedures by the Cache County Republicans to replace her.

“I have come to the conclusion that time spent with my husband is the most important endeavor in my life,” Tidwell wrote in her letter of resignation dated Dec. 8. “We now feel that spending time traveling and enjoying each other’s company is the uppermost priority in our lives.”

Since being elected to the Cache County Council in November of 2016, Tidwell served on that panel for nine years. She has held the posts of either chair or vice chair during much of recent years, guiding that body through period of growth, transition and significant county initiatives.

Those countywide efforts included long-term strategic planning, improved operations, land-use studies and open-space preservation.

“Barbara has been a thoughtful leader, a tireless advocate for constituents and a trusted voice on the council,” her colleagues said in a Dec. 8 press release marking the end of Tidwell’s nearly decade-long service on the Cache County Council.

“Her commitment to public service and deep love for this community have been evident in everything she has done,” they added.

Tidwell holds the Logan Seat 2 on the county council, representing portions of the Adams and Bridger neighborhoods, as well as a corridor stretching north to the Logan-Cache Airport.

“I have enjoyed being a public servant and serving my constituents,” Tidwell said in her letter of resignation, summarizing her time on the county council. “I truly believe that this is the best county in the state and the best state in this great United States.”

Per state law, additional information regarding the vacancy of the Cache County Council and the process to fill the remainder of Tidwell’s unexpired term of office until Jan. 1, 2028 will be issued by the Cache County Clerk’s Office.
