SALT LAKE CITY — Voices for Utah Children has a simple mission – advocating for better child and family policy. That means they are there at the Utah Legislature during the general session, every interim session along with conversations with lawmakers throughout the year.
The non-partisan organization also reaches out to parents about some of the challenges they are facing.
On KVNU’s For the People program earlier this month, policy analyst Jenna Williams told us about an upcoming event that is not just for residents along the Wasatch Front but it’s statewide.
She said it’s really important to hear from parents all around the state.
“We’re really excited to be doing this, and it will be entirely virtual, and so, it’s not even just a video of (what’s) happening in Salt Lake, it will be entirely online and translated into Spanish as well. If there’s any Spanish-speakers that want to join. So, we’re really excited to be, hopefully, hearing from all voices from all over the state. But, yeah absolutely up in Cache Valley, we hear from people all the time, we have some really awesome child care providers up there that we hear from a lot too,” she explained.
The Child Care Town Hall for Working Families will be held this Thursday evening, September 28th from 7 to 815p.m. It will feature Co-chairs for the so-called Blue Collar Caucus, representatives Ashlee Matthews (D-Kearns) and Tyler Clancy (R-Provo).
“So, this is really just an event for people to come and talk about their child care experience, it can be the difficulties but it can also be the joys. We just want to hear peoples experiences because that will help lawmakers to inform their work and serve the people better.”
People can submit questions in advance but Williams said they will also do Live questions & answers as well. Those interested can get more information at UtahChildren.org
