LOGAN — A 21-year-old Logan man with a lengthy criminal history has been arrested for allegedly stealing a vehicle and handgun, according to police. Kaden Lee Saunders was booked Monday into the Cache County Jail after a traffic stop in North Logan.
According to an arrest affidavit, a probation agent spotted Saunders near 500 W. 2500 North and contacted the North Park Police Department. The agent told officers, they recognized the suspect, who had active arrest warrants against him.
Police report Saunders had a backpack with him. Inside was a 9mm handgun that was reportedly from a vehicle burglary in Logan.
Logan City Police officers had been investigating the vehicle burglary in which a Smith & Wesson M&P was taken. The owner said the wording on the firearm had been partially worn off when he was removing rust near the slide, the probable cause statement detailed.
Police noticed the same markings on the gun that was in Saunders’ backpack. They also discovered that the suspect was a convicted felon and on probation, restricting him from legally possessing a firearm.
As the investigation continued, police determined Saunders was driving a vehicle on Sept. 17 when he evaded a traffic stop. Officers reported that he was speeding and driving recklessly.
There was a passenger in the front seat, who later told police, they had asked Saunders to stop the vehicle and let them out. The suspect allegedly refused, causing the passenger to eventually jump from the vehicle as it was moving.
Based on evidence from the two incidents, Saunders was booked on suspicion of kidnapping, theft, possession of a dangerous weapon, and a pattern of unlawful activity, all second-degree felonies; along with failing to stop at the command of law enforcement, a third-degree felony; plus two misdemeanors.
Court records show, Saunders has multiple drug convictions. A warrant was issued for his arrest earlier this month after he allegedly violated his probation. He is currently being held without bail, pending arraignment on new charges.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
