Among the Utah Department of Health’s (UDOH) Tuesday report of five new COVID-19 deaths, four occurred before Feb. 28, 2022. There have been 4,711 total deaths in Utah since the start of the pandemic in March, 2020.

The updated list of Utah’s COVID deaths includes 245 from Cache, Box Elder and Rich counties. That includes 129 deaths in Box Elder County, 112 in Cache County and three in Rich County.

A total of 98 Utahns contracted the virus since Monday, which makes 21 straight days of under 200 positive cases a day. With the new Tuesday numbers included, the total of positive coronavirus cases during more than 24 months of the pandemic is 927,649. The new rolling seven-day average for positive tests is 113 a day.

In the last 28 days, people who are unvaccinated are at 2.6 times greater risk of dying from COVID-19, two times greater risk of being hospitalized due to COVID-19 and two times greater risk of testing positive for COVID-19.

As of Monday 97 people are hospitalized with the virus which is five fewer than on Monday. Of those patients 20 are in intensive care with COVID, same as on Monday. The Health Department reports about 60 percent of Utah’s ICU beds are occupied. Anything over 85 percent is considered functionally full.

In the Bear River Health Department (BRHD) more than 52,000 residents of Utah’s three northern Utah counties have contracted the virus and to date more than 2,000 have been hospitalized in the district.

As of Tuesday, 71 percent of the 186,818 people in the BRHD have had at least one dose.

The state’s rolling seven-day average for percent positivity of “people over people” is 4.1 percent while the rolling seven-day average for percent positivity of “tests over tests,” is 2.7 percent.

With 1,505 Utahns vaccinated since Monday, there are now 1,999,266 statewide who are fully vaccinated, which is almost 62 percent of Utah’s total population. Just over five million vaccines have been administered in Utah.

As of Tuesday 4,868 Idahoans have lost their lives to the virus. Idaho’s total is now 443,666 confirmed COVID-19 cases statewide.

UDOH announced that after Thursday there will no longer be daily COVID-19 data available.
