LOGAN – Logan’s 4th annual Cinco de Mayo celebration promises to be bigger and better than ever, said organizer Carolina Calbimonte of the Cache Valley Media Group.

This year’s event will be held on Saturday, May 4, from 12 Noon until 8 p.m. at the Cache County Fairgrounds, said Juan 97.3 FM’s Calbimonte, the station’s sales and marketing manager.

“This year Tracy Anderson, an entrepreneur and business woman, will be my co-host presenting the program. Anderson is also doing a fashion show with traditional Mexican clothing while a singer performs during the runaway,” she said. “Logan High School student Tiene Talento and Abraham Moreno, a Mariachi, talented 16-year-old from Logan High will be performing next to another 16-year-old singer Juliana Pinto.”

“This year’s celebration is going to have more food, more entertainment; it should be bigger and better than ever,” she added. “We have people coming from as far away as Salt Lake City.”

Special guests include Cache County Executive David Zook, Logan City Councilman Ernesto Lopez, and Detective Letizia Johnson from the Logan City Police Department. They have all been asked to give a message to the community.

“We want to celebrate and share the Mexican culture with all the communities in Cache Valley,” Calbimonte said. “We have invited some of the area’s top Latino performers to be on stage. Watch the performances of Mariachi Dinastia, Habraham Moreno and El Compa Markos y su Grupo Bandio are just some of the music we planned for.”

Potencia UNO, Ballet Folklorice Danza y Corlor, Desfile de Artesania por La Mexicana and more will take the stage at the Cinco de Mayo event.

Besides the stage shows and music there will be Zumba by Brooke, Deo & Maria Avalos.

There will be a traditional pinata by Logan High School’s Latinos in Action and a ton of vendors for people to check out.

There will be mechanical bull riding, rock climbing walls and bounce houses.

Food will be provided by Paco’s Tacos of Logan, Rose’s Churros, Los Primos Restaurant, Café Sabor, Pupuseria Castillo, Pollo Azteca, Pauni Island Grill, Nomy’s Antojitos to name a few.

“We will show how the Mexican community and the whole Spanish community celebrates Cinco de Mayo. People will see a day of celebration they won’t forget,” she said.

Cinco de Mayo is an important Mexican holiday commemorating the Battle of Puebla in 1862, a victory of the Mexican army over the French forces of Napoleon III. The day serves as a tribute to the perseverance of Mexican citizens and their spirit as a people.

This year’s Cinco de Mayo celebration is sponsored by Member First Credit Union, Gossner Foods, DD Auto and Salvage, Presto and Jaun 97.3 FM.
