GARDEN CITY – After sifting through the resumes of more than 400 aspiring actors, the Davis clan has announced their cast line-up for the upcoming 2024 season of shows at the Pickleville Playhouse.

The fun will begin on Friday, May 24 when a cast combining the talents of Pickleville veterans and some newcomers will take to the stage of the rustic playhouse in Garden City to perform the original musical melodrama Welcome to Dangerville.

As usual, Welcome to Dangerville was written and directed by Derek Davis. Dubbed a “western misadventure,” the play centers on the hapless Hunters, a young couple who must veer from their intended mission of touring orphanages to find the perfect child to adopt when they are robbed by a notorious gang of bandits.

The melodrama will feature the return of Jaycee Harris and Katja Roberts — both of whom appeared in Pickleville’s zany 2023 productions – sharing the role of Bonnie.

Also on board for this summer will be the hilarious Jordan Todd Brown, appearing as the mayor of Dangerville. Brown is very familiar to Pickleville audiences, having performed in numerous previous melodramas, often in the recurring role of Bo “Big Guns” Garrett.

Nathan Kremin is another talented performer who found a home at the Pickleville Playhouse by virtue of marrying the Davis clan’s crown princess, the lovely Kenzie Davis. He will fill the role of the outlaws in Welcome to Dangerville.

Most of the other performers in the melodrama are newcomers to the Pickeville Playhouse. They include Adrian Graff as Butch; Jessica Cerreta and Tori Adler sharing the role of Cassidy; Elijah Paruzynski and Sutton Kaylor sharing the role of Clyde; and Ally Yardley and Josh Musselman taking turns accompanying the cast on the piano.

The Pickleville Playhouse will also debut the familiar Disney musical Newsies starting on Tuesday, June 18.

Loosely based on the dramatic Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City, Newsies features music by Alan Menken and a script by Harvey Fierstein.

Directed by Kenzie Davis, the cast of Newsies will include Sutton Kaylor as the strike-leader Jack and Tori Adler as his love-interest Katherine.

Katja Roberts and Jaycee Harris will also appear in the large-cast musical, along with Morgan Horsburgh, who will have just ended a run in the Cache Theatre Company’s production of Daddy Long Legs in time to appear in the Pickleville show.

Veteran actor Stanton Allen will also appear as the penny-pinching newspaper publisher Joseph Pulitzer, a role he also performed in a local production of Newsies by Music Theatre West in 2023.

Other cast members in Newsies will include Adrian Graff, Chase Nylander, David Carver, Elijah Paruzynski, Eliza K. Hall, Jackson Clapier, Jessica Cerreta, Jordan Linton, Michael Hartman, Patrick Despain, Peyton Davis, Roberto Silva-Neto and Ryland Despain.

The original melodrama Welcome to Dangerville will be performed from Friday, May 24 through Labor Day (Monday, Sept. 2).

Performances of Newsies are scheduled from Tuesday, June 18 through Friday, Aug. 16.
