LOGAN – Stand-up artists Alaina Hirschi and Spence Roper will headline the next “Comedy at the Hall” night on Friday, Sept. 20.
The venue for that evening of entertainment will LionHeart Hall in Logan.
Like many young comics involved in delivering the “Dry Bar Comedy” brand of clean humor, Ms. Hirschi is a graduate of Brigham Young University.
Seriously. No kidding.
After finding herself with a BYU degree and still unmarried, Ms. Hirschi opted for stand-up comedy as an unlikely, last-minute “Plan B” for her life. Surprising herself and others, she turned out to be really good at it.
Ms Hirschi has slightly absurd observational style and a dry, sarcastic sense of humor. Think of the Sahara Desert after a ten-year drought.
She is an audience favorite around comedy clubs in Salt Lake City and recently recorded her first “Dry Bar Comedy” special. Video clips from that special are all over the Internet, but Ms. Hirschi is even better in person.
Also on the “Comedy at the Hall” bill of fare is local comic Spence Roper. That’s “Spence” without an “r,” he explains while thanking his parents for scarring him for life.
A local boy, Roper was born and raised – and married, divorced and married again, he never learns – right here in Logan.
Roper adopts an amusing stoner persona during his set, which focused focuses on the “burning questions” of the day, like “Are those kids really mine?”
Despite his humble upbringing, Roper now admits to being pretty conceited. While he has been performing regularly for only a few years, he is often referred to as “The Big Deal in Utah Comedy” – although mostly by himself.
Roper was one of the headliners at a “Comedy in the Hall” event in July and he killed at that show.
Launched in Provo in 2016, “Dry Bar Comedy” maintains a stable of professional comedians who have a reputation for family-friendly content in their routines.
Brothers Ryan and Travis Leonhardt have been operating the LionHeart Hall since August of 2023. In addition to theatrical performances (Seussical the Musical and Daddy Long Legs, both produced by Cache Theatre Company), the hall has hosted weddings, corporate events, dances and most recently the Light Switch Stories series.
The fun is slated to begin at LionHeart Hall at 7 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 20. Tickets for “Comedy at the Hall” can be purchased online at https://www.lionhearthall.com/upcoming-events
Lionheart Hall is located at 480 North, 100 East in Logan.
