LOGAN — An 18-year-old Smithfield man has been arrested and charged with allegedly sexting with an undercover deputy who was posing as a 13-year-old girl, according to law enforcement. Corban Kenneth Boren was booked Wednesday into the Cache County Jail after telling investigators, he was addicted to sex and pornography.
According to an arrest affidavit, Boren allegedly began communicating with the Cache County Sheriff’s deputy on a messaging app earlier this month. He started by asking for photos of the supposed teenage girl, and then began describing various sexual acts he intended to perform with the 13-year-old.
As the messages continued, Boren made plans to meet up with the undercover deputy after school and take her to a nearby park. This reportedly occurred twice but each time he would back out or not show up.
Boren was taken into custody on Feb. 19 and transported to the sheriff’s office for questioning. During the interview, he reportedly admitted to messaging the undercover deputy. He also acknowledged to having an addiction to sex and pornography ever since he was 12-years-old, the deputy reported in the probable cause affidavit.
Boren went onto describe how he would find underage girls on Instagram and attempt to meet them. He reportedly admitted to knowing this was illegal, but it was too hard for him to resist the opportunity.
Law enforcement reported that as they began to investigate Boren, numerous victims came forward, describing how they had been harassed. One girl claimed the suspect picked her up from school and then drove to a park, saying that he was going to kidnap her and take her into a nearby canyon.
Deputies also learned Boren had been trespassed by the Cache County School District, due to numerous attempts to pick up girls from schools. The Preston Police Department had similarly launched an investigation after several underage girls claimed the Smithfield man had enticed them to engage in sexual acts.
Friday, Boren was arraigned during a virtual hearing in Logan’s 1st District Court, appearing by web conference from jail. He was charged with five counts of enticing a minor, a second-degree felony; along with misdemeanors for stalking and electronic communication harassment.
Boren was ordered by Judge Spencer Walsh to remain in jail, being held temporarily without bail while attorneys gather evidence in the case. He will appear again in court Wednesday, and could face more than 15 years in prison, if convicted.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
