January 4, 1939 — March 9, 2024 (age 85)

Ronald Ernest Spatig, a long-time member of Preston, Idaho, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2024. He was a dedicated farm machinery mechanic at Modern Farm Equipment, where he poured his expertise and passion into projects he undertook. Ronald also found joy and fulfillment in managing his own small farm in Mink Creek.

Born January 4, 1939, in Preston, Idaho, Ronald’s life was characterized by his unwavering commitment to helping others with any mechanical problem that came their way. His willingness to lend a hand endeared him to all who knew him.

Ronald’s love for tinkering and fixing things extended beyond his professional life; it was a reflection of his generous and kind-hearted nature. He passed on his love for vehicles to his three sons, who have continued to help those in the community.

He married Carolyn Nield of Montpelier, Idaho, in the Logan Utah Temple on June 30, 1961. They had five children and were together for 28 years.

Ronald is survived by his children Val Dean Spatig (Renee), Randy Spatig (Holly), Jana Wheelwright (Will), Tony Spatig (Amy), as well as his grandchildren Cory Spatig, Josh Spatig, Casey Hall, Brandee Hall, Amanda Jensen, Nicole Merritts, Tyler Fonnesbeck, Danielle Harrop, Riley Wheelwright, Ariana Wheelwright, Lexie Wheelwright, Danasia Wheelwright, Taeya Spatig, Oakleigh Spatig, and Aidyn Spatig. He is also survived by his siblings Max Spatig, Betty Lou Spatig, Clarice Shirley Walters, and Rosemary Shimmerhorn.

Ronald is preceded in death by his daughter, Tina Fonnesbeck, and his parents, Adolph Spatig and Eva Wanner Spatig. Additionally, he is reunited with his brothers, Stanley Spatig and John Spatig.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Franklin County Medical Center and the wonderful staff at the long-term care facility for their dedicated service.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Whitney, Idaho Cemetery.

In memory of Ronald’s remarkable life and the indelible impact he had on those around him. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the kindness and compassion he shared with everyone he encountered.
