U.S. Rep. Blake Moore (R-UT) was appointed to the House Budget Committee in late June.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Among his other duties on Capitol Hill, U.S. Rep. Blake Moore (R-UT) is now serving on the House Budget Committee.

In late June, Moore was named as House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) personal representative on Budget Committee. He is now the second highest-ranking Republican on the committee and also serves as a representative of the House Armed Services Committee on the budget panel.

“I’m proud to have a fighter like Rep. Blake Moore joining us as our newest member of the House Budget Committee,” said U.S. Rep. Jason Smith, the ranking Republican on the House committee.

“He joins us at a pivotal time as American families are facing record inflation driven by massive new government spending,” Smith added. “House Democrats are reviving their calls to pass President (Joe) Biden’s ‘Build Back Broke’ agenda, which would spend trillions more.”

The House Budget Committee is responsible for passing an annual resolution outlining government spending allocation and priorities.

“Addressing our national budget issues has been the focus of much of my work both in Washington and in Utah’s 1st Congressional District,” Moore explained.

“It is imperative that we rein in our federal spending and get our fiscal house in order so we can chart a course forward that will insure prosperity for the next generation.”

With a GOP primary victory under his belt and bound for almost certain reelection in deep-red Utah, Moore is now returning his attention to new responsibilities in Washington.

The House Budget Committee holds hearings on federal budget legislation and congressional resolutions related to the federal budget process. The committee also reviews the president’s annual budget request to Congress and drafts the annual Congressional Budget Resolution, which sets overall spending guidelines for Congress as it develops appropriations bills.

“Blake has already established himself as a vocal critic of wasteful government spending in Utah,” according to Smith. “We look forward to having him join us on the Budget Committee as we fight to return fiscal sanity to Washington.”

Smith cited Moore’s leadership with a task force he convened in Ogden as an example of working with local leaders to create a framework of solutions for the federal government to address our national debt and deficit crisis.

He also praised Moore for recently being named a 2022 Fiscal Hero by the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget.

That group is a non-partisan, non-profit organization committed to educating the public on issues with significant fiscal policy impact. Its bipartisan leadership comprises some of the nation’s leading budget experts, including many past heads of the House and Senate Budget Committees; the Congressional Budget Office; the Office of Management and Budget; and the Government Accountability Office.

“I am beyond excited to be appointed to serve on the House Budget Committee,” Moore said. “I look forward to getting to work.”

This is Moore’s third committee assignment in Washington, in addition to his roles on the House Armed Services and Natural Resources committees.
