LOGAN – Saturday, April 27 for the 26th year, National Prescription Drug Take Back Day returns to Cache Valley with three drop box locations.

Local law enforcement agencies are partnering with the Bear River Health Department with drug drop-off locations at Lee’s Marketplace in Smithfield, Ridley’s Market in Hyrum and Smith’s Marketplace on North Main in Logan.

This event, Saturday from 10 am-2 pm, allows for the safe disposal of unused or expired prescriptions, which helps prevent drug misuse in the community.

Rachel Kelly, prevention specialist at Bear River Health, said the best practice when disposing of old medications is to not simply throw or flush them away, but to use the free medication drop boxes throughout the county.

At the Take-Back Day collection sites prescription drugs will be accepted plus over-the-counter medications, vitamins and veterinary medications in addition to vape pens, cartridges, or other e-cigarette devices (without the batteries in the devices.)

A list of free medication disposal boxes throughout the valley can be found at BRHD.org.
