LOGAN — A 40-year-old Hyrum man was arrested Friday on multiple felony charges after police say he sexually abused a 10-year-old girl in Logan and threatened to kill her family if she reported it.
Jose Rios Jiminez was booked into the Cache County Jail on four counts of first-degree felony aggravated sexual abuse of a child. The offenses allegedly occurred around December 2024.
According to a probable cause affidavit from the Logan Police Department, Jiminez is a family friend who occasionally referred to the victim’s father as a brother. The 10-year-old girl told investigators at the Cache Children’s Justice Center that Jiminez entered her home while she was watching television alone and inappropriately touched her over her clothing. The girl claimed that Jiminez stopped the assault when her brothers arrived home. She stated a similar second incident occurred later.
The affidavit states Jiminez told the girl that he “has killed people before” and would kill someone in her family if she told anyone what happened. The victim eventually disclosed the assaults to her aunt while suffering a severe panic attack where she was shaking uncontrollably. The victim’s mother told police the girl had become adamant about installing security cameras in their living room around the time of the incidents. A neighbor corroborated seeing Jiminez enter the home and being alone with the child on several occasions.
When contacted by police, Jiminez denied ever being alone with the girl. However, he admitted to investigators that he is a sex offender currently trying to get off parole for similar offenses.
Jiminez made an initial appearance Monday afternoon in Logan’s 1st District Court, appearing by web conference from jail. He was read the charges and assigned a public defender.
Cache County deputy attorney Aaron Jossie asked the court to hold Jiminez without bail, claiming he may still be on parole for a similar charge in 2009.
Judge Angela Fonnesbeck ordered Jiminez to remain in jail and appear again in court April 6.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
