SALT LAKE CITY — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced upcoming changes to its Sunday meeting schedule, replacing alternating class weeks with weekly sessions for all adult and youth organizations while maintaining the established two-hour church block.

The adjustments, announced by the First Presidency ahead of the April 2 general conference leadership session, will take effect Sept. 6.

Under the updated schedule, sacrament meeting will remain 60 minutes. Following brief transition periods, members will attend both Sunday School and their respective quorum or organization classes—Relief Society, elders quorum, Young Women, or Aaronic Priesthood—every week. These classes will each last 25 minutes.

Primary, the church’s children’s organization, will continue to meet every Sunday for 55 minutes while adults and youth attend their respective classes. Depending on local circumstances, congregations may choose to hold classes first and conclude with sacrament meeting.

Church leaders framed the adjustments as a way to enhance community and spiritual support.

“Gathering weekly in every class helps deepen gospel learning by connecting it more closely to personal and family study,” said Paul V. Johnson, Sunday School general president. “Though the schedule looks different, the amount of time spent learning together remains the same.”

Curriculum Updates for Youth and Adults

Alongside the schedule changes, the church introduced a curriculum shift for its youth programs. Beginning Sept. 6, Young Women classes and Aaronic Priesthood quorums will study from an updated “For the Strength of Youth” guide. The 12-chapter guide aligns with monthly study goals aimed at preparing youth for lifelong discipleship, church missions, and future family life.

Timothy L. Farnes, Young Men general president, called the guide simple but powerful. “This guide will help youth walk in confidence, rely on His power, and move forward with hope in a challenging world,” he said.

Adult classes, including Relief Society and elders quorum, will continue to focus their 25-minute weekly discussions on messages from the most recent general conference. Sunday School classes will continue using the “Come, Follow Me” curriculum.

Camille N. Johnson, Relief Society general president, noted the value of gathering more frequently. “There is additive strength that comes when we meet each week to counsel, learn, and support one another,” she said.

While sacrament meeting times remain unchanged, leaders encouraged members to seek meaningful ways to strengthen their worship experience, describing the meeting as a time of joy, reverence, and fellowship.

Congregations will dedicate time on the fifth Sunday in August, as well as the second hour of the Sept. 6 meetings, to discuss and prepare for the transition.
