LOGAN – In a gathering bereft of action items on March 4, the members of the Logan Municipal Council dealt with a series of workshop issues that will likely be voted on at the next meeting.

Parks & Recreation director Russ Akina appeared to inform the council members about a new schedule of fees proposed for the Logan River Golf Course.

Under Resolution 25-08, those proposed new fees would take effect May 1, the first time that fees at the municipal golf course have increased since November of 2023.

After surveying the prices charged by other golf courses throughout the region – including links at Birch Creek in Smithfield, Eagle Mountain in Brigham City, Hobble Creek in Springville and Bountiful Ridge in Bountiful – the city’s recreation staff recommended comparable fee increases for the Logan River Golf Course.

Akina explained that those fee hikes were motivated by the city’s staff desiring to build up a capital fund reserve to finance future improvements to the course’s driving range, golf carts and irrigation system.

The staff recommended that an adult season pass fee would increase from $1,200 to $1,300 and a season pass for senior golfers would rise from $1,100 to $1,200.

Comparable fees for adult season passes at Birch Creek are $1,300; Eagle Mountain are $1,025; Hobble Creek are $1,200; and Bountiful Ridge are $1,300.

Fees for season passes for senior golfers at Birch Creek are $1,300; Eagle Mountain are $1,025; Hobble Creek are $1,200; and Bountiful Ridge are $1,000.

The adult green fees for 18 holes at Logan River would increase from $38 to $40. Green fees for adults for 9 holes would increase from $19 to $20.

Comparable green fees for 18 holes at Birch Creek are $40; Eagle Mountain are $38; Hobble Creek are $40; and Bountiful Ridge are $40.

Green fees for 9 holes at Birch Creek are $20; Eagle Mountain are $19; Hobble Creek are $20; and Bountiful Ridge are $20.

The city’s staff also recommended that the fees at Logan River for adult punch passes be raised from $290 to $310 as well as fees for senior punch passes being hiked from $250 to $270.

The only recommendation that council members actively questioned was the increase for a half-day rental of Logan River’s tournament room from $500 to $800, while the cost of a full-day rental jumped from $1,000 to $1,600.

But Akina defended those increases by saying that they were necessary to cover the cost of rapidly cleaning that space in order to accommodate same-day renters.

Members of the municipal council took those staff recommendations under advisement until their next meeting on Tuesday, March 18.

Other workshop items explored by council members on March 4 included Budget Adjustments for Fiscal Year 2024-25; future power needs for the city; the 2025 Piublic Art Action Plan; and a proposed ordinance governing local home occupations.
