LOGAN — A 53-year-old Logan man died and two people were injured Sunday afternoon after a motorcycle broadsided an SUV on U.S. Highway 91, north of Richmond, authorities said.

The collision occurred at about 3:59 p.m. at the intersection of southbound U.S. 91 and 11600 North, near Campbell’s Snacks, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

Investigators said the Logan man was driving a Harley-Davidson Electra Glide traveling southbound on the highway. At the same time, a Ford Expedition, driven by a 25-year-old woman of Beaver Dam, was stopped at a stop sign on 11600 North.

According to UHP Lt. Cade Brenchley, the woman pulled away from the stop sign to travel westbound across the highway and crossed directly into the path of the oncoming motorcycle. The motorcyclist struck the passenger side of the SUV broadside.

The victim, who authorities said was not wearing a helmet, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. His body was transported to the Utah State Medical Examiner’s Office. His identity has not been released, pending notification of extended family.

According to Brenchley, excessive speed on the part of the motorcycle is under investigation as a potential contributing factor.

Both occupants of the Ford Expedition were wearing seat belts. The driver sustained moderate injuries and was transported by ground ambulance to Cache Valley Specialty Hospital.

Her front-seat passenger, a 52-year-old man, also of Beaver Dam, sustained severe injuries. Paramedics initially took him by ground ambulance to Cache Valley Specialty Hospital before a medical helicopter airlifted him to Ogden Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment.

The driver of the Expedition was not arrested or cited at the scene, but troopers indicated charges remain pending.
