LOGAN — Mendon City officials have extended the ban of personal fireworks within city limits until further notice, citing a combination of recent statewide fires, an ongoing water crisis and guidance from Gov. Spencer Cox.

The restriction, announced jointly by Mayor Ed Buist and city council members, also applies to surrounding unincorporated areas like Petersboro and Cobblestone, which are under a Cache County firework ban.

While personal fireworks are prohibited, the city’s professional Pioneer Day fireworks show scheduled for July 25 on the Mendon City square will proceed as planned. Officials said the event will be closely monitored by the Mendon City Fire Department in compliance with state safety guidelines.

City leaders acknowledged the ban may disappoint residents but urged families to find safer ways to celebrate the summer holidays without risking community damage.
