April 30, 1942 – March 25, 2024 (age 81)

Lois Blacker Cobia passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family at the age of 81 on March 25, 2024. Born on April 30, 1942, Lois was one of six children born to Edward Loyn Blacker and Mabel May Blacker. She was born in Evanston, Wyoming and moved to Ontario, Oregon before leaving for Rupert, Idaho and graduating from Minidoka County High School in 1960.

Soon after her graduation she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to attend the LDS Business College where she discovered, and improved upon, her talent at shorthand and typewriting. Once she reached her 21st birthday Lois was called to serve in the Spanish American Mission as a devoted member of The Church of the Latter-day Saints. Her Mission was only one of many callings that she served faithfully, with one of her favorites being Primary. Upon the ending of her Mission in 1965, she embarked on the next phase of her life, which included marrying Glen Stott and raising a family of her own in California and Utah. They were later divorced.

In 1988 she married Cliff Cobia and continued her long career as a Staff Associate at Utah State University, a position she held from 1985 until her retirement. During her time at Utah State’s Caine Diary, she accrued many awards in recognition of her exceptional service to Utah’s dairy industry. Outside of work she had a great number of hobbies including quilting, watching the hummingbirds on her back porch, gardening, and sharing her homemade raspberry milkshakes.

Those who knew Lois would best describe her as someone who loved deeply and gave unwavering support, with that love and support extending to both her children and grandchildren unconditionally. She was always willing to advise and to help, with one of her most common phrases to those that asked for her help being “come over and we’ll do it together”.

Lois is survived by her siblings Paul (Lynn) Blacker, Ruth (Laren) Waite, Mary Chugg, Beth (Terry) Levanger, and John (Mary) Blacker; her children, Kimberly (Gary) Earl, Hyde Park; Gregory (Amanda) Stott, Nibley; Matthew (Becca) Stott, Wellsville; Gary (Becky) Stott, St. George; Kevin (Angie) Stott, Hyrum; Amanda (Adam) Moser, Germany; her step children, Joel Cobia, Pleasant Grove; Michelle Peterson, Salinas, California; 26 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

Her parents, her husband Cliff Cobia, her son Marc, her brother-in-law Bryce Chugg, and her stepson Jared, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be on Friday, March 29, 2024, at 11 a.m. in the Providence 5th ward chapel at 355 Canyon Road, Providence.

There will be viewings prior to the service on Thursday, March 28, 2024, between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. and Friday, March 29, 2024, between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
