Cache County Auditor candidate Dianna Schaeffer talks to KVNU For the People host Jason Williams.

LOGAN —  Another candidate running for the office of Cache County Auditor actually worked during the administration of the last stand-alone auditor, before the job was combined with the county clerk responsibilities.

Dianna Schaeffer was a guest last week on KVNU’s For the People program and talked about her experience that she would bring to the office.

My first seven years I worked for Tamra Stones who was the auditor for 33 years I believe. Yes, I did government accounting for seven years under her, so, I’m experienced in that. And then, after they combined it, they created the finance department which has turned into a little bit of a fiasco, and gave me to the clerk to perform all of the statutory tax administration buildings,” she explained.

Schaeffer says she wants to restore integrity to the financial division. She feels that things could be put back on the right course with the right leadership with someone with the skills.  She described some of what the auditor is responsible for.

“So, the statutory specifics, if one were to read Title 17 you would assume that it was limited to financial services reporting, and also auditing services. However throughout state code in the tax title, which is 59, there are numerous tax administration duties that are assigned to the county auditor.”

Schaeffer said those include reporting all of the value to the state, which is called balancing the tax roll, the tax-rate setting process and the truth-in-taxation process, which is when a taxing entity wants to increase the taxes on their citizens.  You can find out more about Dianna at Schaeffer4Auditor.com.
