LOGAN — A 36-year-old Logan man is facing an aggravated assault charge after allegedly stabbing a woman multiple times during a domestic dispute, according to police.
Santos Mateo Guox Sanches was arrested Sunday night after he went to the hospital searching for the alleged victim, whom Logan City police believe is his ex-partner.
According to an affidavit of probable cause, the woman arrived at the hospital around 4:30 a.m. Sunday with multiple stab and “defensive” wounds, including a two-to-three-inch laceration behind her ear. She initially told hospital staff the injuries were caused by a knife falling from a piece of furniture while she was cleaning. She later recanted, admitting her ex, Sanches, had stabbed her after a disagreement. Family members then brought her to the hospital for care.
Sanches reportedly arrived at the hospital a few hours later, telling investigators he “wanted to check on her” but “did not disclose any concern for the victim.” He refused to provide a timeline of the night before, according to the booking affidavit.
When investigators searched the Logan apartment where the alleged attack occurred, they found significant physical evidence. Detectives reported finding blood on the outside railings and in the interior carpets, as well as evidence that blood had been scrubbed from certain areas of the carpet.
Authorities confirmed that three children were inside the home at the time of the attack, with one child allegedly seeing Sanches in the hallway holding a bloody knife. All three children have since been safely removed from the home and are with family members.
Sanches made an initial appearance Monday in Logan’s 1st District Court. He was charged with aggravated assault, a second-degree felony; three counts of domestic violence and obstruction of justice, all third-degree felonies.
Judge Brian Cannell expressed concern with the allegations. He ordered Sanches to remain in the Cache County Jail without bail, and appear again in court Dec. 1.
