LOGAN — A 33-year-old Logan man was arrested Saturday after allegedly beating a woman during a domestic dispute, according to law enforcement. Justin Edward Stuart was booked into the Cache County Jail, where he remains held pending formal charges.

According to an arrest affidavit, Logan City Police officers were called to a domestic dispute early Saturday morning. A dispatch operator had received a 911 call and listened as a male and female were arguing. The female was heard telling the man to get away from her. She later said the suspect had hit her in the face and she could not see out of her eye.

When police arrived at the scene, an officer found a woman crying, with injuries to her face. The alleged victim’s left eye and forehead were swollen. She was treated by paramedics and taken to the hospital, where doctors determined she had several fractures to her face, court documents stated.

Officers questioned the suspect, later identified as Stuart. He said he got into a fight with the woman that turned physical. He claimed the alleged victim was hitting him and that he had a right to defend himself. He also admitted to drinking seven beers, the probable cause statement described.

Several neighbors told police, they could hear Stuart holding down the woman.

Police contacted the alleged victim at the hospital later. She explained how Stuart began arguing with her as she was trying to go to sleep. Inside her bedroom, he allegedly got on top of her, held her down and punched her. He later headbutted her, as she was trying to flee, the affidavit reported.

According to jail records, Stuart was booked on suspicion of committing felony aggravated kidnapping and aggravated assault; along with misdemeanors for violating a jail release agreement, intoxication and disorderly conduct. He will likely be arraigned in Logan’s 1st District Court this week on formal charges.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
