LOGAN — A 43-year-old Logan man has confessed to his involvement in an assault that left a man with severe injuries. Kelly G. Olson was originally arrested following the assault in October 2025.
According to court records, Olson appeared Aug. 17 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, amended to a third-degree felony. A remaining charge was dismissed as part of the agreement.
According to prosecutors, Logan City Police officers were called to the incident address and met with the 46-year-old victim. He reported how he had gotten into an argument with his sister, Shannon Leigh Karpowich, 39, who was playing music loudly in the home’s garage.
The man reported that when he asked Karpowich to turn down the music, she punched him in the face. Olson and another unidentified female then reportedly held him down as Shannon continued punching him in the face and groin. As he got back to his feet, he was then shoved over a table, landing on his side.
The victim explained how he was currently recovering from two back surgeries and a broken foot. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment, where it was determined that he sustained three broken ribs and bruises to his groin, according to court paperwork.
Police questioned Karpowich, who reportedly admitted to assaulting the victim and showed no remorse for his injuries. She claimed her brother had been the aggressor and had been choking her by the neck.
According to court records, Olson is currently out of jail on $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 28.
In July, Karpowich was sentenced to three months in jail and four years of probation after pleading guilty to aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury and kidnapping, both second-degree felonies.
