LOGAN — Officials have temporarily closed Logan Canyon, US 89, due to avalanche concerns in the canyon. The highway between Logan and Bear Lake was closed Wednesday morning around 6:45 a.m.

According to Logan City Police Dispatch, a large avalanche occurred overnight near the Dugway. No injuries were reported but crews expected it would take at least two hours to clear the debris.

UDOT officials are using a front-end loader to clear the large rocks, snow and mud.

An official with the Utah Avalanche Center was also on site and reported the heavy rain overnight could cause additional slides in the canyon.

Crews are estimating the closure will remain in effect until at least 9 a.m.
