January 10, 1933 — July 19, 2022 (age 89)

Janice Hansen Holmgren, 89, passed peacefully into the next life in the early morning hours of July 19, 2022 at Beehive Homes, Perry, Utah. She was born January 10, 1933 in Brigham, City to Isaac Martell and Ruby Rosina Simmonds Hansen. She was the last of her generation.

Janice married John Peter Holmgren on November 7, 1952 in the Logan Utah Temple. They lived in the same house in Bear River City for 51 years until his death on December 8, 2003. She stayed there almost 20 more. She attended Lincoln Elementary and graduated from Box Elder High School.

Janice was violin Concert Mistress of the Utah State University orchestra in 1951-52. During her lifetime, she performed vocally in a trio, taught piano to hundreds of students, accompanied the Box Elder Jr. High School choir, and played the organ in church, at the Ogden Temple, and for funeral duets with her sister-in-law Melanie.

A member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Janice served as Relief Society president and in the Young Women and Primary organizations. She attended 14 sessions of the Utah State legislature when John served in the Senate – helping plan many activities.

Janice loved family history work and was a member of the Utah Daughters of the Pioneers. She served on the Box Elder County Fair Board. She was an award-winning watercolor artist and an accomplished seamstress. Her lasagna and coconut cream pies are legendary, as well as the tables she set when entertaining.

She is survived by her children: Denise (Paul) Longhurst, Candace (James) Daly, and Michael Chris (Jerilyn) Holmgren, 12 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Peter Holmgren, two daughters, Mindy Holmgren and Marsha Holmgren, a grandchild, Keaun Michael Holmgren, and two great-grandchildren, Dane P Longhurst and Naomi Faith Longhurst.

The family would like to acknowledge the loving care given during the past six months by the staff at Beehive Homes – Mom commented often about how much she loved it there.
