LOGAN — A 20-year-old Franklin County man, already serving a prison sentence for possessing child pornography, has been ordered to serve a year in the Cache County Jail for raping two teenage girls in Lewiston last year. William Kyle Currie said he had come to realize what he did, while being in prison since February 2023.

Currie was sentenced Dec. 2 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He previously accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to two counts of rape, a first-degree felony; and sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony. As part of the resolution, 10 remaining charges were dismissed and attorneys agreed not to ask for another prison sentence.

On Jan. 22, 2023, Cache County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a Lewiston home on report of a 14-year-old girl who had runaway. The girl’s father reported finding social media messages between the girl and Currie. The chats were sexual in nature and included nude photos of the girl.

Deputies obtained a warrant to search Currie’s phone. They located several nude photos of the teenage girl. The pictures were exchanged while the defendant was reportedly living out of his vehicle in both Utah and Idaho.

A week later, deputies received a second report of a delayed sex offense. A 15-year-old girl reported Currie had enticed or coerced her into engaging in sexual relations three times.

Deputies interviewed Currie during the investigation. He reportedly admitted to having sexual relations with both girls. He said that he was “addicted to young girls and wanted help,” a warrant affidavit described.

According to court records, on Aug. 7, 2023, Currie was sentenced in Franklin County District Court to a prison term of up to two years, after previously being convicted of possessing child pornography.

During Monday’s sentencing hearing, defense attorney Cameron Cox said Currie suffers from mental health issues. He explained how his client was struggling at the times the crimes occurred because his grandmother had passed away.

Cache County Deputy Attorney Joshua Nemeth acknowledged that attorneys were not asking for a sentence longer than a year in jail. However, he said the defendant was a predator and doesn’t understand what he did.

Currie told the court that what he did was “completely wrong.” He said he was sorry for what he had done.

Judge Angela Fonnesbeck told Currie that he needs to change his thinking and behavior. She said the way he had treated the victims was heinous and disgusting.

Currie was sentenced to serve 364 days in jail and 10 years of probation. He was given credit for 237 days already served.
