BANNOCK COUNTY, Idaho — A man has died following the large vehicle pile-up Monday, Nov. 27, in southeast Idaho. The 66-year-old American Falls man was one of several motorist who were hospitalized after the accidents west of Pocatello.

Idaho State Police said the man was transported to a local hospital and later transferred to Utah for medical attention. Unfortunately, the man succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation continues into the collisions that happened around 8 a.m. on eastbound Interstate-86, near mile post 56, by the Pocatello Regional Airport.

Police report a thick layer of fog covered part of the freeway, causing visibility to significantly decrease in a short amount of time, resulting in drivers slowing down quickly.  Multiple personal and commercial vehicles ran into each other causing a chain reaction of approximately 30 vehicles to be involved in the crash.

Police report, several people were transported to local hospitals by ambulance and personal vehicles with various injuries.

The identity of the 66-year-old man will be released by a Medical Examiner, who will also determine the cause and manner of death.

Troopers continue investigating the circumstances around the incident. Due to the nature and scope of the event, they said it will take time to analyze all the evidence.
