SMITHFIELD – The Four Seasons Theatre Company has slated auditions for its upcoming production of the Disney musical Tarzan for Thursday, Mar. 14.

Acting try-outs will be held from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at Cedar Ridge Elementary School in Hyde Park. Two hour-long dance auditions will be held at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

Call-backs will be held by invitation on Friday, Mar. 15 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Tarzan, one of the lessor known of the Disney stable of musicals, is based on the 1999 animated film of the same name. It features rock music and lyrics by Phil Collins and a story by David Henry Hwang.

The local production will be directed by Kody Rash, with music direction by Afton Whitney and choreography by Melisa Jensen and Dillan Wright.

Those auditioning will be asked to sing one minute of a Broadway musical theater song in the Disney style that displays vocal ability as well as character and personality, according to the Four Seasons website.

Acting auditions can be scheduled in 15-minute increments at https://fourseasonstheatre.org/auditions/.

The website advises that anyone auditioning must attend one of the two dance sessions and plan to stay for the entire hour. Appropriate clothing – that will allow the participant to move freely – and footwear are also recommended.

The audition call is for performers 16 year of age and older for Tarzan. The production team explains that the upcoming Four Seasons’ productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and The Christmas Carol will have opportunities for younger performers.

Would-be performers should bring a filled-out the Four Seasons audition form (see https://fourseasonstheatre.org/auditions/), attach a headshot and add a list of personal conflicts in the period from April 1 to June 30 to the audition on Mar. 14.

Rehearsals for Tarzan will begin in early April. The company’s website indicates that the Four Seasons troupe typically rehearses weekday evenings from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and on some Saturday mornings.

The performance dates for Tarzan are June 20 to 29 at Sky View High School in Smithfield.

The Cedar Ridge Elementary School is located at 65 North, 200 West in Hyde Park.
