LOGAN – The 2023-24 National Touring Season sponsored by the Cache Valley Center for the Arts will continue with a tribute to three female legends of the country music scene at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Mar. 22.

That salute to the musical careers of artists Patsy Cline, Loretta Lynn, and Dolly Parton is known as “The Trailblazing Women of Country.” It will be performed by legends-in-waiting Kristina Train and Miko Marks, backed-up by a five-piece, all female band of talented studio musicians.

Train and Marks are following in the footsteps of Cline, Lynn and Portion by defying restrictive gender norms in the world of county music, proving once-again that women can be beautiful as well as strong, vulnerable and powerful.

Now in her early 40’s, Ms. Train is an American singer-songwriter and musician who lives in Nashville, having previously lived in London, England.

Her music blends influences from country, soul, gospel, blues, folk and jazz.

Music critics have praised Ms. Train for possessing “ … a singing voice from another era … that recalls the voices of Dusty Springfield, Aretha Franklin, and Laura Nyro… Her voice is simultaneously husky, rich and dark, with a big range that spans multiple genres.”

Ms. Marks is an American singer based in Oakland, California. She has earned numerous county music industry honors, including being named “Best New Country Artist” at the 2006 New Music Weekly Awards and as “Next Woman of Country” by Country Music Television in 2022.

While drawing comparisons to the Dixie Chicks and Gretchen Wilson, music critics have hailed Ms. Marks’ three album releases as “… clicking on every level” making those recordings a solidly enjoyable, neo-traditionalist country listen.

In October 2022, Ms. Marks was invited to perform at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville for the first time.

Together and separately, Train and Marks will perform the repertoire of beloved hits recorded by Cline, Lynn and Parton.

Those women are credited with revolutionizing country music and blazing a trail for future generations of female artists. With their chart-topping hits and record-breaking sales, they wove threads of contemporary womanhood throughout the tapestry of country music.

Their achievement resulted in unprecedented commercial success and earned each of them a place in the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Each year, the CacheARTS organization brings the best of national and international talent to the Ellen Eccles Theatre as part of the CacheARTS Presents season.
