Winning logo for this year’s Young Artist Cup

HYRUM — The Young Artist Cup Committee, in association with Mountain Crest and Ridgeline High Schools, present the 25th annual Young Artist Cup Competition to be held the nights of Wednesday, March 27th and Thursday, March 28th at 7p.m. both nights in the Mountain Crest auditorium.

The event showcases the musical talents of Mountain Crest and Ridgeline High School students or students who live within their boundaries.

But it’s more than musical artistry as students compete for cash prizes and trophies in graphic art design, female and male vocals, strings, piano and brass/ wind/ percussion.

On KVNU’s For the People program last week, coordinator Ruthanne Ellis said it really is a unique event.

It is remarkable, it really is, it’s the only one like it that I know of here in Cache Valley.  Like you said, this is its 25th year and that’s a long time. I mean these kids participating this year weren’t even close to being born, so, yeah it’s a fantastic event,” Ellis explained.

Admission is free both nights. The String and Vocal competitions will be held on Wednesday(the 27th ) and the Piano and Brass/Wind/Percussion competitions will be held on Thursday(the 28th).

Plus each year Graphic Art students get involved in designing the new logo for the cup.

“It is really fun because not only are we able to involve the musical artists, we’re able to loop in the graphic art work. And so, we had about ten entries this year from students from Ridgeline and from Mountain Crest, and then our committee voted, and we picked our favorite one. It is fantastic, and we use that logo on all of our advertising, on our t-shirts, on the programs.”

The design of Liberty Stolworthy from Providence was chosen to represent the 2024 Young Artist Cup.

Past Young Artist Cup participants have gone on to excel in music, performing arts and graphic design.
