LOGAN – The Cache County Republicans will observe Flag Day on Saturday, June 14 at the Cache County Historic Courthouse.
That patriotic ceremony is slated for 8 to 9 a.m. in the courthouse square, the same location that has recently been the site of monthly anti-Trump protests.
The local event will commemorate the adoption of the American flag by the Continental Congress in 1777 with a flag-raising ceremony, an inspirational salute by local veterans, a 21-gun salute and appropriate remarks by Utah Rep. Mike Peterson.
Renowned vocalist Anna Romney will also perform at the ceremony.
On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress voted to adopt the flag design, which included 13 alternating red and white stripes and 13 white stars on a blue field.
The stripes represented the original 13 British colonies and the stars symbolized the new constellation of states, according to the Encyclopedia Britannica.
While Flag Day is a widely observed day of celebration across the country, it is not a federally recognized holiday.
Flag Day is most often celebrated with parades, flag displays and patriotic observances to honor the American flag and the nation’s history.
The Cache County Historic Courthouse is located at 290 North Main Street in Logan.
