COUNTY COUNCIL – With the scheduled retirement of Cache County Fire Chief Rodney Hammer looming, the county council members appointed his replacement at their regular meeting on April 22.
Brady George will assume his new duties with the County Fire District on July 1.
“I told several people going into (the search for a new fire chief) that I thought there was no way that we’d ever find anybody as good as Chief Hammer,” explained County Executive David Zook to the council members.
“I know that’s still not possible…but Brady George is the next best thing.”
After reviewing George’s biography and on Zook’s positive recommendation, the council members unanimously approved George as the new chief of the Cache County Fire District.
With more than 28 years of experience in the firefighting field, George comes to Cache County from the City Fire Department in Meridian, ID where he was previously employed as Chief of Training since October of 2023.
His prior experience since 1996 includes serving as an adjunct instructor at the Utah Fire and Rescue Academy in Provo; Battalion Fire Chief and Fire Captain for the Salt Lake City Fire Department; and Fire Training Captain and firefighter/paramedic in the SLCFD.
George holds bachelor and associate degrees in fire science from Columbia Southern University in Orange Beach, AL.
Hammer will retire July 1 after a long career that has included 11 years as a volunteer firefighter/emergency medical technician and more than 15 years as chief of the Cache County Fire District.
The County Fire District’s primary role is to protect life, property and the environment within Cache County.
That role includes providing support to the more than 200 volunteer firefighters in the 11 fire departments located throughout the county.
Additional specific duties include code enforcement, training, hazardous materials response, technical rescue, wildfire suppression, emergency planning and managing burn permits.
