LOGAN — A 22-year-old Logan man has been sentenced to more than two years in jail for sexually assaulting two women, telling police he couldn’t stop himself. Ashton Cooper Robanske apologized for his actions before a letter from his mother described how she was ashamed to call him her son.
Robanske, who was originally arrested in January 2025, was sentenced Wednesday in Logan’s 1st District Court. He previously pleaded guilty in two cases to two counts of forcible sexual abuse, a second-degree felony, and sexual battery, a class B misdemeanor.
According to prosecutors, police were called to investigate a delayed report of a sexual assault on Oct. 31, 2024. The victim said Robanske, with whom she had previously been in a relationship, sexually assaulted her at his home on Sept. 18.
The woman said Robanske forced himself on her, pinning her leg and arm down. He then began molesting her as she told him “no” and to “stop.”
The victim said Robanske apologized after the incident, sending her messages acknowledging he should not have done what he did. She also provided officers with Snapchat logs corroborating her account.
On Dec. 31, 2024, police questioned Robanske. He admitted his actions were wrong, stating he could not control himself and was scared after what he did.
Investigators also learned Robanske sexually assaulted an 18-year-old woman with developmental disabilities who later died. The crimes occurred in 2017 when the defendant was 14.
During Wednesday’s sentencing, public defender Cameron Cox said Robanske self-reported the crimes to a bishop to take responsibility for his actions. He asked the court to follow a plea deal recommendation and release his client, who had already served 484 days in jail.
Robanske told the court he learned a lot while incarcerated. He expressed sorrow for the harm he caused, saying no one in the courtroom hated him more than he hated himself.
The victim from the most recent case told Judge Brian Cannell she feared what could happen if Robanske were released, explaining the only reason she accepted the plea deal was to spare herself from having to testify. She described the horror and betrayal she experienced, saying the defendant lies and uses manipulation to get what he wants.
A victim advocate read a letter from Robanske’s mother, who said he wreaked havoc on their family’s lives. She expressed embarrassment over being the defendant’s mother, saying he preyed on his victims.
Judge Cannell praised the victim and others for their bravery in coming forward. He refused to follow the terms of the plea deal, instead sentencing Robanske to 848 days in jail, followed by probation and registration on the sex-offender registry.
