Researchers call detoxing liver biotransformation, but we’ll call it detoxing since that’s more popularly used.
Many people’s detoxing is impaired by modern diets, lifestyle, and toxins. This can cause toxins and hormones to accumulate and increase their burden on the body, causing multiple symptoms and disorders.
Some of the more common reasons for poor detoxing are:
High blood sugar: All those sweet coffee drinks, noodle dishes, and fruit smoothies can lower glucuronic acid, which helps the liver convert toxins into non-toxic forms for elimination from the body.
Poor gut health: Detoxification continues in the gut through the actions of the gut microbiome. Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and poor gut microbiome health impede detoxing. These conditions can cause constipation, sending toxins back into circulation.
Inflammation: Someone with high blood sugar and poor gut health will be inflamed. Inflammation bogs down the liver and impedes detoxification in a vicious self-perpetuating cycle.
Sedentary lifestyle: Our bodies were designed to move regularly. This helps the lymphatic system remove toxins from the body and activate multiple processes that support detoxification.
Glutathione deficiency: Most people are low in this master antioxidant that not only dampens inflammation but also supports liver detoxification.
Poor methylation: Many people with chronic inflammatory or autoimmune conditions are poor methylators. Methylation is a key aspect of liver detoxing; some people need support. These are my favorite PalmaVita nutraceuticals to support detoxing:
- Fortizome-3X: Dose depends on level of inflammation. Some people take three full syringes a day to see a difference.
- Hepato-RLS: A multi-vitamin and liver-gut support powder you mix in water or another beverage.
- Methyl Mobilize: Supports the methylation and sulfation detoxification pathways in the liver.
- If possible, I also recommend sitting in an infrared sauna for 20 minutes at least three to five times a week.
