LOGAN — Mayor Mark Anderson announced Logan City’s full support for the statewide fireworks ban implemented by Gov. Spencer Cox, prohibiting all personal fireworks for the upcoming Independence Day weekend.

The restriction on non-commercial fireworks will run from July 2 through July 5.

“We can’t afford to have any loss due to fire in our community,” Anderson said. “One home, one hillside, is just not worth the risk.”

With wildfires burning across Utah, Logan officials had been debating local restrictions but faced state laws that limited municipal authority. Anderson noted the governor’s declaration simplified the city’s decision.

Violators face fines up to $1,000 and may be held financially liable for any resulting fire suppression costs. State officials will reevaluate wildfire conditions before determining potential restrictions for the Pioneer Day holiday weekend, July 22-25.

Because the executive order exempts permitted commercial events with approved fire safety plans, Logan City’s July 3 fireworks display will proceed as scheduled. Numerous other America 250 events also remain planned throughout Cache Valley to celebrate the holiday.
