LOGAN — A 43-year-old Lehi man has admitted to selling a stolen trailer with an altered vehicle identification number to a Cache Valley buyer. Wade Lamar Peacock accepted a plea deal to reduced charges and will now await sentencing.
According to court records, Peacock appeared July 8 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He pleaded guilty to receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle, a second-degree felony, and altering a vehicle identification number, which was amended to a third-degree felony. As part of the resolution, two remaining charges were dismissed.
The investigation began in March after a Hyrum resident contacted the Cache County Sheriff’s Office for a VIN inspection on a trailer purchased for approximately $4,000. Deputies discovered the primary VIN had been scraped off and altered. Using a secondary VIN provided by the manufacturer, investigators confirmed the trailer had been reported stolen out of West Jordan.
Deputies traced the phone number used in text messages to Peacock, who was already on probation with Utah Adult Probation and Parole for other crimes. A victim later identified Peacock in a photo lineup, and authorities said he admitted to selling the trailer to the victim.
According to court records in Utah County, Peacock was arrested last year after forging a divorce certificate to marry a second woman while avoiding child support payments to his first wife. The Lehi man was arrested and charged after an ecclesiastical leader presented Peacock’s estranged wife with a fake divorce certificate dated Nov. 16, 2023. Police checked state court records and found no official divorce decree, discovering only a petition for legal separation filed earlier that month. He was later convicted of forgery, a third-degree felony, and sentenced to 60 days in jail.
In 2024, Peacock was arrested after stealing an automobile. He later pleaded guilty to attempted transfer of a stolen vehicle, a third-degree felony, and was sentenced to 100 days in jail and 36 months of probation.
Peacock is currently out of jail. He is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 14 and could face up to 15 years in prison.
