Utah Treasurer Marlo M. Oaks is inviting women across the state to attend the sixth annual Utah Women in the Money Conference, set to take place both in person and virtually. The event will be held at the Sheraton Salt Lake Hotel and online on Thursday, Sept. 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday, Sept. 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The hybrid conference will feature financial experts and exhibitors offering resources to help women enhance their financial security. Attendees can participate in workshops on personal and family finance, with a chance to win prizes for high participation. Recordings of the sessions will be available online for a year after the event.
Participants will learn strategies to manage personal and family finances, reduce debt, build credit, save for retirement, start a business, and create a financial support network. Both in-person and virtual exhibitors, including financial services and government agencies, will be on hand to provide additional resources and answer questions.
“As chair of the Utah Council on Financial and Economic Education, I am grateful for the opportunity to bring together some of the state’s top financial leaders to share their knowledge and skills with Utah women,” Oaks said. “This is an excellent opportunity for women of all ages, cultures, and financial situations to grow their financial capability.”
The conference is designed to address the unique financial challenges women face, including longer life expectancy and the likelihood of taking on caregiving roles. Over 40% of American women are the primary breadwinners in their households, and women account for a large portion of consumer spending in areas such as healthcare and major purchases.
“Women fill many important roles in our state. It is critical to equip them with the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to make sound financial decisions for themselves and their families, especially during these challenging economic times,” said Susan Speirs, CEO of the Utah Association of CPAs and chair of the Utah Financial Empowerment Coalition, the nonprofit organizing the event.
Past conferences have provided financial education and networking opportunities to hundreds of Utah women, with nearly 900 participants last year. The event’s hybrid format, first adopted during the pandemic, allows women from across the state to attend virtually while still offering in-person interaction.
Registration for the in-person conference costs $15 for Thursday, $25 for Friday, or $35 for both days. Virtual attendance is free, but registration is required. Scholarships are available for those in need. More information and registration can be found at womeninthemoney.org.
