LOGAN — An 18-year-old Wellsville man faces a felony charge after prosecutors say he placed a juvenile in a chokehold until the youth lost consciousness during an altercation at a local house party late last week.
Bridgir Wright was formally charged Monday in Logan’s 1st District Court with aggravated assault resulting in a loss of consciousness, a second-degree felony. Court records show Wright was booked into the Cache County Jail, where he remained held in custody Monday afternoon.
The charge stems from an incident that occurred on Friday, Oct. 16. According to a probable cause affidavit, Wright and a juvenile were both attending a house party when a dispute between them turned into a physical brawl. Authorities have not publicly released the identity or exact age of the juvenile victim due to his minor status.
During the fight, Wright got the juvenile into a chokehold and restricted his breathing and blood circulation, court documents state. Prosecutors allege that Wright maintained the hold on the youth’s neck and throat until the teenager completely lost consciousness.
Multiple other people attending the gathering witnessed the altercation and confirmed to investigators that they saw the juvenile lose consciousness during the fight, according to Cache County Sheriff’s investigators.
Jail records show Wright was released from jail. His initial court appearance has yet to be scheduled.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
