Wayne Martin’s life journey began on April 11, 1948, he was born to Lois Bodily Martin and Merwin Martin in his home in Clifton, Idaho. He took his place as the middle of 11 siblings. Lavere, Eugene, Arlo, Ron, Linda, (Wayne), Susan, Yetive, Sheila, Dennis, and Pam. He was active in the Boy Scouts and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints throughout his life.

His educational path started with attending Dayton and Clifton Elementary Schools, followed by West Side Junior High and High School. He was a drummer in both the school and dance band. He played basketball, and ran cross country.

While growing up, Wayne’s days were filled with farm chores, fishing, hunting, and mischievous camaraderie with local friends in Clifton, Idaho.

He graduated from seminary in 1965 and later became the salutatorian of his class in 1966 showing his commitment to his studies. During his senior year, he first started dating his wife, Susan Williams.

He embarked on an LDS mission to Scotland from May 15, 1967, to May 24, 1969. He was married on September 26, 1969, in the Logan, LDS temple.

He enlisted in the Air Force during their honeymoon and was enlisted for 5 years and during the Vietnam War. He spent 18 months in the Philippines while Susan remained in the United States, where their first child, Tony, was born. They moved to England as a family, where their daughter Leena was born.

After 5 years of military service he transitioned to civilian life. He pursued education at Ricks College, earning his degree as a Registered Nurse. During this period, his family expanded to include two more sons, William and Mike. They then moved to Grace, Idaho, where he worked for a couple of years as a Registered Nurse in nearby Soda Springs, Idaho. They continued to nurture their family by adding another daughter, Amy to their ranks.

Returning to the military as an officer, he worked his way up the ranks. The family embraced different homes across the country, from Mississippi to Idaho, Illinois (where he attended additional schooling to become an OBGYN Nurse Practitioner), Utah, and New Mexico. Eventually they returned to and settled in Mountain Home, Idaho in 1993. In 1996, Wayne’s distinguished military career concluded and he retired as a Major. Subsequently, he  worked as a Nurse Practitioner at Trinity Mountain Clinic before embracing retirement for the second time in 2009.

In 2011, Wayne and Susan embarked on an 18-month mission to Mongolia, where Wayne’s nurse practitioner skills were used to benefit the local missionaries.

During retirement years, he loved spending his time hiking, finding sticks and making them into creative walking sticks that he loved giving away and donating to local thrift stores.

Even in the face of Alzheimer’s, Wayne’s unwavering love for his family, friends, and his faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints never faltered and remained steadfast. His boundless affection was manifested through his heartfelt hugs, waves, handshakes and the simple yet profound words, “I love you.”.
